Installation
We have shown a great deal of installation detail in this website. Even though it may look complicated, a TOYOTOMI installation is very much simpler than other Diesel heaters. In particular, the simple "through the wall flue" (included in the cost of the Laser Heaters - not an extra).
If the installation detail looks complicated, do not be concerned. It is in fact very simple, and all the installation work is carried out by a qualified installer.
Why No Window or Flames To See
When diesel is burnt in optimum "clean burn" conditions for maximum heat output, the flame is a "cold blue" colour, and provides little visual comfort. An excessive yellow flame, which may look "warm and comforting", generally means inefficient combustion, which will produce smoke and soot, and noxious emmissions.
All windows need cleaning -- so does the see through window on an enclosed fireplace. No viewing window means no cleaning or door seal gaskets to deteriorate, or leak diesel fumes and smoke intro your lounge. The huge volume of hot air that is continuously discharged from the powerful circulating fan and hot air outlet grilles, is so great and effective that you will never miss the see through window, or the need to clean it.
The LASERTM Combustion System is completely and perfectly controlled by two computer controlled fans. There is no practical need or benefit of a viewing window.
The LASERTM flame is visible through some small slots in the front hot air outlet grille, behind whioch is a very small viewing window in the side of the combustion chamber, (approx 30mm x 30mm), and it is possible to visually see the flame jets burning in the combustion chamber, through this very small, (almost completely concealed) window.
Whole House Heating
For an average size home, the LASERTM L73 has capacity to spare. Leave internal doors open for heat to spread to other parts of the home. Better still, install a CLEANAIRETM HRV (see www.dryair.co.nz) to distribute the heat throughout the entire home. Inquire to your supplier. A heat transfer fan will also assist heat transfer throughout the home, but be sure to select one that has adequate capacity, and which is quiet. Call Avon for free advice.
Warning
LASERTM heaters heat very large areas, but in a home with many rooms it may be necessary to provide a supplementary means to distribute the huge volume of heat that is produced by the LASER by more effective means than (for example) simply opening the door between the lounge and the hall. Fans that transfer heat from one room to other rooms are an excellent means to improve heat distribution, and will greatly enhance the entire comfort of the home. The very best heat transfer system also changes the air in the home - the CLEANAIRETM HRV - Heat Recovery Ventilator (see www.dryair.co.nz).
Do not confuse the CLEANAIRETM HRV (or fans that are designed to transfer warm air from one room to other rooms) with any of the numerous "roofspace home ventilation systems", which source air from the roofspace cavity to ventilate the home. No one can guarantee that roofspace air is always clean and safe to breathe (even if it is filtered). A genuine CLEANAIRETM HRV only sources clean outdoor air, and recycles energy 24/7. No sunshine is required.
Be aware that some companies are promoting a so called an HRV, which is no more than a roofspace home ventilation system. A genuine CLEANAIRETM HRV has two Fans and an Air to Air Heat Exchanger. If it only has one fan - ITS NOT AN HRV - be warned!
Maintainance
The diesel Nozzle (fuel jet) needs to be cleaned. If the controls are set to "Automatic" the Nozzle is automatically cleaned at 2am each day. If controls are set to "Manual" manual (push button start), the Nozzle is manually cleaned by pressing a pushbutton. After the automatic cleaning function (approx 10 minutes) the heater returns to its previous setting.
The fan guard at the rear of the heater is also an air filter to filter pet hairs and fabric / carpet dust from the air entering the heater. Approximately weekly, make a visual check to ensure that it is clear of dust and dirt approximately weekly.
The fuel filter (on the fuel tank) needs to be checked from time to time. If fitted with a Gar-Ber fuel filter (see accessories page), and if average NZ clean diesel fuel is used, the need to change or check the filter will be approx every 5 to 10 years. A blocked fuel filter is identified by the heater computer as a fuel shortage, and an "Error Code" is displayed on the Control panel digital readout. To rectify, replace the "spin-on" Gar-Ber fuel filter cartridge (see accessories page).
LASERTM Diesel Heaters Save Electricity
Heat Pumps may be cleaner and more efficient than coal fires, but when installed en mass, Electricity Generation and distribution power companies complain they have nearly exhausted their capacity to meet the demand for electricity.
Heating homes and business with efficient diesel heaters is a positive way to directly reduce the both power generation and power line demand.
